The Recycle for Cornwall campaign has been developed to raise public awareness of recycling and to provide consumers with a compelling reason to recycle.
The campaign is being funded by WRAP and will be delivered through a partnership comprising Cornwall County Council, the 6 district councils, Restormel, Carrick, Caradon, Penwith, North Cornwall and Kerrier, Cornwall Waste Action (CWA) and ReZolve (RZ). Each one of these organisations is represented on the campaign management committee.
WRAP is a major UK programme established to promote resource efficiency. Its particular focus is on creating stable and efficient markets for recycled materials and products and removing the barriers to waste minimisation, re-use and recycling.
A not-for-profit company in the private sector, WRAP is backed by substantial Government funding from DEFRA, DTI and the devolved administrations in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
Originally established to promote sustainable waste management and create stable and efficient markets for recycled materials and products, WRAP's remit has recently been extended to include a set of new programmes for England. The new work comprises: a Household Waste Minimisation Programme; an Organics Market Development programme to provide material specific support and investment to the composting sector; the development of an Advisory Service to local authorities - the Recycling and Organics Technical Advisory Team (ROTATE); and a Waste Communications and Awareness programme.
This latest funding is part of £30m made available to WRAP under Defra's Waste Implementation Programme for communications and awareness work directly focused on increasing participation in recycling and waste minimisation schemes

Cornwall Waste Action is a community organisation which gives support and advice to community projects across the county, as well as providing waste awareness services to local authorities. In 2002/3 CWA carried out comprehensive monitoring of Kerrier district kerbside collection, surveying over 10,000 properties. This was followed by a project with Cornwall Friends of the Earth, which carried out canvassing work on nearly 1,000 properties in the same district.
ReZolve was formed in 1997 as Cornwall's Waste Working Group. Its aim was to debate the waste management issues that were important in Cornwall at the time, and to this end the Group developed a strategy for tackling waste in the County. This was delivered to the public as well as to decision makers throughout Cornwall and other areas of the UK as well as further afield through the publication of the 'yellow book' which was called 'A Fresh Look at Cornwall's Waste'. ReZolve delivers a number of practical projects aimed at waste reduction, reuse and recycling. These include: ReMaDe Kernow, set up in 2001 tasked with developing bigger and stronger markets for recycled materials, The Cornish Real Nappy Project and new projects looking at waste awareness and minimisation within the county.
