  Dos and Don'ts

Do:

Use a kitchen caddy - You won't need to make so many trips to the compost bin. - click here to down load a compost accessories leaflet.

Place your compost bin directly on the ground - This allows worms to get up into your compost bin and start breaking down the large waste.

Place the compost bin in a sunny spot - The increased heat will speed up the rate of your composting.

Balance your greens and browns - click here for further information.

Locate your bin close to the house - so it is easy to use.

Use a compost accelerator to speed things up - ask at your local garden centre.

Don't:

Place the compost bin onto concrete - But remember you will need to be to get at it all year round.

Add woody stems

Put in diseased roots

Use plate scrapings - cooked vegetables, meat and bones.

Add too many grass cuttings
