The Recycle for Cornwall campaign has been developed to raise public awareness of recycling and to provide consumers with a compelling reason to recycle.
Learning Objective: To raise awareness of the importance of reuse and recycling. To develop designing and making skills
Resources: • A variety of different packaging • Materials from the Scrap Store • Waste paper and cardboard • Art materials • Design plan worksheets • Glue guns, PVA, tape, string
Introduction: Discuss the importance of reuse and recycling. Include information on where materials come from and what sort of products we can reuse in every day life such as plastic bottles and also larger items such as mobile phones, computers, toys and books. Introduce the idea of making something new from scrap and waste, (this could be seasonal such as Christmas decorations, Easter cards, Halloween).
Main Activity: Divide the pupils into small groups of 4-6. Provide them with a range of junk items (as above) and ask them to design, as a group, and then make a model exclusively from waste. This can be a model of their own choosing or on a theme ( e.g. a recycling container, musical instrument).
