  In the House - Storage

63 % of Cornwall’s residents recycle which must cover a multitude of living accommodation from one bedroom flats to 6 bedroom farm houses and everything else between.

Since April 2005 all of the Local Authorities in Cornwall have been offering a fortnightly kerbside recycling collection to the majority of their residents, and before then hundreds of recycling bring banks have been sitting in car parks across Cornwall ready to store your recycling, (and they still are).

A common cry from ‘would be recyclers’ is that they want to recycle but they don’t have the space to store two weeks worth of recycling particularly those living in flats where space is at a premium.

But we believe that no matter how small or busy your home is, you will have the space to recycle it just may require a little more forethought.

Crush your cans and save spaceThe first stage of solving your storage problems is to try to reduce your waste in the first place, think about the things you buy and consider whether you could buy a product with less packaging. Would buying in bulk reduce the amount you are throwing away? Squashing and crushing your plastic bottle, steel and aluminium cans could save you at least 1/3 of the space if not more and avoiding single use items whether they can be recycled or not will save space in your dustbin as well as your recycling sacks or box.

If you still don’t have much space at home, consider which material is taking up the most room and recycle it at you closest recycling banks, perhaps you could take your newspapers with you to the supermarket and recycle them whilst your there, saving space at home.

If you have a garden or yard area investing in a dustbin or plastic tubs to store your recycling until collection day could save you some space in the house.

Make your house recycling friendly.
From segregated to stacked bins there are storage solutions available to buy which could solve your problems in an instant, take a look at our links on the right.
