At Christmas time we all produce a lot more waste than normal, whether it is food waste or packaging, unwanted presents, wrapping paper and cards or Christmas trees and decorations. Christmas is a time when it is vitally important to think about the impact we are having on our environment and this Christmas there are 3 ways you can help:

Reduce
At Christmas we are tempted to over-indulge and often end up buying more than we really need. Think about the additional products that you put in your shopping trolley and try to avoid those that are heavily packaged. Think carefully about the presents you buy and consider buying something that that doesn’t need wrapping such as theatre tickets or a magazine subscription.
Take a look at some of our ideas

Reuse
Plenty of the materials we use at Christmas can be used again and again, decorations, Christmas trees and even Christmas cards. You could get creative and make some decorations or wrapping paper from materials you would usually throw away.

Recycle
Recycle as much you can. Find out exactly what materials can be included with your kerbside collection including the extra ones like wrapping paper and Christmas cards. Make sure you check to see if your recycling collection date has changed over the holiday period. You will probably collect more materials than usual so might want to visit your nearest recycling banks in between collections.
